Calculator methodology

Know what your estimate includes.

Each entered activity quantity is multiplied by its selected emissions factor to calculate kilograms CO₂e, then divided by 1,000 for tonnes. The annual total includes only the activities you enter.

Factor source

UK Government 2026 conversion factors, revised July flat file. Values are taken from the total kg CO₂e field, not individual greenhouse-gas components.

Important boundaries

Food, purchases, construction, water, waste, refrigerants, upstream fuel emissions and electricity transmission and distribution are excluded. Car factors are average operational emissions; electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are not modelled. Household totals divide all entered activity equally by the number of people.

Business mode covers selected energy and company-car use plus selected travel. It is not a full Scope 1, 2 and 3 inventory, SECR report or certification. Use activity data and factors matching your actual reporting year, fuel, vehicle ownership and journey category.

Reduction scenarios

Sliders reduce the baseline electricity and gas quantities, car kilometres and flight passenger kilometres by the selected percentages, using unchanged factors. Rail remains unchanged. They exclude replacement travel, rebound effects, capital equipment and changes to the electricity mix.

Downloads and saved records

CSV and JSON outputs include quantities and factors. Saved estimates are recalculated on the server and retain the factor set for traceability. A contribution or offset purchase would not alter the recorded physical emissions.
